Altar Ego

A character, identity, or aspect of Self who is wanting to be loved and liberated through creative expression and Soft Power

Each season, Soft Power leads a cohort of performers of all experience levels through our Altar Ego curriculum.

The program concludes with our artists sharing their recorded performances on our virtual stage: The Dragon Playhouse.

The Altar Ego Performer Journey

Our 8-week curriculum is designed around the creative cycle, as informed by birth education, autoethnography, and The Hero’s Journey (a universal storytelling structure identified by Joseph Campbell). All sessions are based on our Soul-Sensitive framework that guides all of our gatherings.

Retrieve

Journey to the depths of your inner worlds to retrieve parts of Self who have been hurt, harmed, shamed, silenced, or suppressed.

Alchemize

Tell your story. Embrace the healing medicine these parts are offering, and taste the elixir that was within you all along.

Embody

Emerge from this journey, like a butterfly breaking out of its cocoon, with gentle aligned actions to fully embody this Altar Ego.

Express

Liberate the story, the parts, the Altar Ego by creating a performance (recorded or live) that introduces your lore and/or healing medicine.

“Participating in the Altar Ego cohort felt so refreshing, supportive, and energizing. I learned the principles of drag, ways to take care of my physical and spiritual wellbeing through the creative process, and new editing tools / skills for video production.”

The Debut Cast & Cohort

  • Artist Transformation Story

    SYZYGY’S Altar Ego Journey

  • How has Altar Ego impacted your life?

“In the time between and since Church Kid Drop Outs, my life has drastically changed across every dimension as I step more fully into myself.

I have taken on more challenges with increased capacity and resilience in my nervous system thanks to the many grounding tools I use personally on a regular basis.

  • I’ve begun to make friends again and focus on launching my own business after chronic illness forced a hiatus from “work”, and centered my health as a keystone to making all of these enthusiastic moves which led me to amazing improvements across all dimensions.

Most importantly, I’ve found a deeper connection to my innate self and cultivated self-love beyond anything I’ve experienced before, which has propelled me through some of the most difficult moments in my life and led me to breakthroughs which continue to reshape my life in drastic and divinely aligned ways.”

  • What skills and lessons have you gained through this experience?

“I’ve learned and developed not only technical tools like editing and producing, but the storytelling and worldbuilding that establish a solid foundation in any creative and/or spiritual practice and methodology.

  • I developed deeper trust, both creatively and interpersonally, by practicing vulnerability within these safe and wise containers, which has empowered me to pour more of my raw Me into every part of my life and express myself more authentically.

I’ve cultivated a deeper relationship with Source through decolonial practices and perspectives and group sessions with experienced facilitators. I’ve expanded my capacity and resilience in ways that can only be done in safe and intentional community spaces.
